“Organisations that care” project, Step by Step, Croatia

In 2015 and 2016 the Parents’ association Step by Step implemented the project “Organisations that care”. The project was co-financed by the European Union, under the scope of the IPA component I – Transition Assistance and Institution Building and the Government Office for cooperation with NGOs.
The main objective of the project was to strengthen the capacities of civil society organisations for monitoring and advocacy for good governance and transparent decision-making regarding policies referring to children and youth.
The project was implemented in three cities: Sveti Ivan Zelina, Belišće and Vukovar in partnership with local civil society organisations and public authorities. Through trainings, education and research activities, the process of drafting local strategies for children was facilitated. During the process, more than 3000 citizens participated with their suggestions and remarks on the round tables and web counselling. As a result, 3 local policies are developed and they are in the final phase to be enacted.
