The Croatian Step by Step Parents’ Association and COFACE Families Europe member released a new brochure (in Croatian) on internet safety to mark Safer Internet Day celebrated internationally on 7 February.
The brochure was prepared as part of the #DeleteCyberbullying project that Coface Families Europe launched at European level in 2013.
The project aims to provide information to children, young people and parents about cyberbullying, as well as pool resources on the topic.
Step by Step Executive Director Silvija Stanic says the online world is one of the few areas where children and young people have a more intuitive sense than older generations.
“Parents need to understand the important role that instant messaging, social networks and the Internet play for the socialization and communication of today’s children and youth. They need to be aware that the corrective measures that apply in the offline world, also apply online and should try to become more effective online educators.”
The brochure also helps to identify a child in trouble, describes the basic rules of Internet safety as well as the most common risk situations in which children can find themselves and offers practical advice
Mrs. Stanic added that the brochure was widely covered in the Croatian press and that overall, the brochure will help parents and children better navigate the online world.
