COFACE Families Europe member Instituto de Robótica para la Dependencia (Institute of Robotics for Dependency – IRD) was one of the five winners of the 2017 EESC Civil Society Prize. The five winning initiatives show what is being done by numerous NGOs across Europe to help some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in society enter the labour market. Each of the winning projects demonstrates, in its own way, the vital role played by grassroots organisations in making labour markets more inclusive and in encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to move into employment or entrepreneurship.
The awards ceremony took place on 7 December 2017 during the EESC plenary session.
The IRD presented its initiative Laundry ID. A project aiming at creating jobs for people with disabilities in a laundry service technologically redesigned and adapted to their needs. Laundry ID guides the laundry worker in all steps of the process, adapting the work to people with intellectual disabilities, eliminating classification errors whilst creating new inclusive jobs for a vulnerable group with difficulties accessing the labour market.
