Reducing food waste through labelling, UNAF, France

The minimum durability date has entered on packaging with the objective of reducing food waste. UNAF is running an awareness raining campaign on the new labelling system in France, which specifies the period of time that food keep its specific properties such as nutrients, minerals and flavor. This period varies depending on the food but is now always shown in the same way: “consume best before” or “best before end”. For example, in the case of canned goods, if their packaging is not damaged, deformed or swollen, it is possible to consume them after the written date, avoiding food waste.
