After three months of collecting best practices for the meaningful inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families, our S.H.I.F.T. public consultation is now closed.
This survey was part of the second phase of our #BeTheSHIFT campaign launched in 2019. Following the renewed impetus given by the European Disability Rights Strategy, COFACE Families Europe and the COFACE Disability Platform were dedicated to raising awareness on the guide to show that the inclusive transition is not only possible but already happening all over Europe.
We want to extend our thanks to all the respondents that have given us food for thought and proven that the S.H.I.F.T. is already in movement through their answers. Huge thanks to COFACE’s network and friends who have helped us spread the word about the survey.
It is now time for us to make good use of the rest of the summer to analyse all these inputs and select, with the support of our members, the practices that will feature in the S.H.I.F.T. Atlas that we are planning to release in early December at the occasion of the day of persons with disabilities.
Let’s bring to the front stage these good practices!
#BeTheSHIFT European atlas
The SHIFT towards inclusive societies for persons with disabilities, their families and their carers, is not a dream, but happening already in many countries and communities across Europe.
The COFACE Disability platform for the rights of persons with disabilities, their families and their carers produced the S.H.I.F.T. guide, which proposes 5 objectives, 15 tools, and 45 actions in the areas of Support, Human rights, Independence, Families and society Transition to achieve meaningful inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families.
With this public consultation, we invite all to share with COFACE and its COFACE Disability platform any examples along the 45 SHIFT actions – a service, a city, an NGO, a school, a daycare, a law, an employer, a podcast, a website – any action which you believe is contributing today to the SHIFT. The later creation of an atlas featuring selected examples is especially important in light of the recent adoption of the 2021-2030 European Disability Rights Strategy in which the EU commits to fulfill the promises of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
