In its consumer approach COFACE would like to consider the impact that consumption may have on the health of the consumer. With the support of our members we wish to provide European families with the information that they might need in this field.
It implies first of all fighting diseases having their origin in nutrition. Previous crises such as the mad cows' disease showed a real threat for the family. Therefore COFACE wants to be able to inform European families on the potential risk and the ways to avoid it.
It seems important as well to sensitize families to the consequences of using drugs, tobacco and alcohol on the health of each family member (mental problems, cardiovascular diseases and cancer) as well as on family life.
Finally COFACE wishes to inform families about the diseases caused by high-sugar, -salt and -fat diets. The confederation participate in a platform for obesity launched in March 2005 contributing with its members to the struggle against this plague.
In order to promote healthy nutrition, COFACE launched following missions:
- Provide families with all the information they need to eat healthier;
- Participate in the actions against obesity in Europe;
- Inform families about the consequences of using drugs and alcohol.
A responsible consumption policy cannot ignore any longer the need of society for participating in general objectives of the public health, such as care and prevention. Families are the stakeholders of these reflections.
