Event EASPD 30 January

Coproducing employment initiatives for young persons with disabilities and mental health problems

Event is hosted by MEP Brando Benifei and the Taskforce “Support Services of Tomorrow”.

COFACE Families Europe co-organised this event with the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD), the European Disability Forum (EDF), the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) and Inclusion Europe, as part of a Task Force on co-production of the future social services, led by EASPD.

The event highlighted some of the challenges persons with disabilities face when looking for a job in Europe. Kamil Goungor who participated in the European Voluntary Service (EVS) shared his experiences, including the difficulties of accessing personal assistance budget, or taking up EVS with organisations other than those working on disability matters due to the lack of accessibility of the workplace. Furthermore, he underlined that persons with disabilities are often expected to work for free, and face significant challenges due to the lack of a fully inclusive labour market. MEP Benifei underlined that the human rights approach should underpin all EU policy initiatives, e.g. the implementation of the Youth Guarantee, with specific regard to persons with disabilities to ensure their equal access to the labour market.
