Enough is Enough: German NGOs publish a joint declaration in sight of the climate action summit

In regard of the UN Climate Action Summit in September 2019 in New York, a broad alliance of German civil society organisations has drawn up a joint declaration titled: “Enough is Enough: UN SDG Summit in sight – Germany needs to face up to its challenges” which was sent to the Federal Government.

The 118 organisations call on the German government to no longer disregard its commitments and to finally start implementing sustainable policies. They further criticize the disregard of the Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (DSGs) which can, if they were to be pursued at the current speed, not be achieved by 2030.

“The much-anticipated wake-up call that the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were supposed to represent has so far been left unanswered. If everyone in the world were to live like people do in Germany, we would need three planets. For in an ecological, social as well as economic sense, the German and European model is anything but sustainable, and it is incompatible with the achievement of global justice.”
